Home: Welcome

Adoption Process

At Kitty's Critter Zoo, we breed for quality pets

Adoption policy: Adoptions for the pets only come in same sex pairs to avoid possible litters. Cause we all know having cute little rat pups sounds fun but when they come in 12-23+ the extra work to follow is a doozy. That being said breeding pairs will require a second application contract as well as a questionnaire.

We do function on a first come first serve policy, deposits are required to hold any rats for you all rats sold for adoption are to be cared for as pets, feeders are sold separately.

Overview bill of sale: The Adopter agrees to properly care for the rat(s) and provide for their welfare. Upon delivery the adopter has examined and is satisfied with the condition and health of the rat(s) and by signing the bill of sale has agreed to the following conditions:

  • The Adopter will provide the rat(s) with adequate daily nutrition including food and fresh water.

  • The Adopter will provide rat(s) with an enclosure of adequate size (2 square feet per rat), and will provide safe bedding for the rat(s), the pets should not be kept on cedar or any untreated wood chips or aquarium tank of any size to ensure proper airflow. If rat(s) are kept in an enclosure with wired bottom or levels, the floors must be covered with appropriate materials to prevent injury to the rat(s). The Adopter will ensure that the enclosure is housed in a temperature-controlled room where the rat(s) will not be exposed to the elements, predators and/or other harmful animals/insects.

  • The Adopter agrees that in the event that the rat(s) must be re-homed or if the adopter is ever unable to provide the necessary care, (veterinary or otherwise) the Adopter agrees to contact the Breeder first and allow the Breeder the right of refusal to take the rat(s) back. Return of the rat(s) is to be done by the Adopter and at the Adopter’s expense. If the Adopter has located a good home for the rat(s), it must be with the knowledge and consent of the Breeder. The rat(s) is not to be sold, given away, turned loose, abandoned, or otherwise disposed of to any persons, retailer, pet store, rescue institute, shelter, or auction

  • The Adopter will not turn over responsibility of the rat(s) to a child under any circumstances. Primary care for the rat(s) must be provided by an adult of 18 years or older.

  • The Adopter will provide proper vet care to the rat(s) if they should get injured or fall ill in any way at any time during their lifetime.

  • The Adopter will contact and turn over any “oops” litters as well as any planned litters outside of a breeding contract.

  • The Breeder is to be notified if rat(s) develop any temperament problems, illness or chronic conditions which may be genetic.

  • The Adopter must understand that while the breeder doesn’t sell rat(s) that have any health issues at the time of adoption, no guarantee is expressed or implied about the health or temperament of the rat(s). The breeder, Kitty’s Critter Zoo is hereby absolved of any and all responsibility/liability for future damages or injuries caused by the above animals and any veterinary ills incurred on behalf of said animals.

You must fill out an application and be approved before you will be able to adopt and receive any rat(s). We reserve the right to cancel any adoption at any point during the adoption process. Once you have filled out our adoption application, we will notify you of your status via your preferred contact method. Rats will be posted as available to reserve AFTER they are 6 weeks of age and pass all of their temperament screenings. At the point of confirmation, you will be required to pay a non-refundable reservation deposit. This deposit is to ensure that only the serious adopters reserve rats. If anything falls through with the adoption, all payment EXCEPT the deposit will be refunded.

Pick up: All deposits must be paid within 3 days of your reservation being confirmed. If you fail to pay your deposit within 3 days your reservation will be forfeit. All rats must be picked up within 10 days of being notified or them being ready. If you fail to pick up the rats within the 10 day limit your reservation will be cancelled and any money above the reservation deposit will be refunded. After a pick-up date and time has been agreed upon, please contact me as asap if any changes need to be made. If you fail to notify us of any changes in pick-up time and date within adequate time you may forfeit your adoption and the deposit fee.
